About Us >> Welcome
WELCOME
I'm honored to welcome you to our home on the web and tell you about our exceptional college preparatory program for lower, middle and high school students. The fact that you're here tells me you're a keenly dedicated parent who believes in your child's abilities, one who recognizes the right school can provide your child with the opportunity to succeed.

Commonwealth Academy is a welcoming school where many different kinds of learners can, in the words of a recent graduate, "reconnect with being smart." Average to superior students who require the individual attention available only in a classroom of 10 or fewer children, as well as students who have been diagnosed with a specific learning disability (LD) and/or with AD/HD will find an environment that celebrates their unique talents and supports their areas of need. It's a place where students gain the self-confidence required to connect with their teachers and peers, and engage in and take responsibility for their education.

Our curriculum is embedded with student-centered learning strategies and an award-winning technology program. Students successfully complete grade appropriate course requirements and fulfill their highest level of academic achievement, reflective of their potential, social development, and emotional growth. Many students welcome the additional challenge of honors courses. With an exceptional faculty, on-site support services such as counseling, college counseling and SAT/ACT preparation, and a full range of electives, clubs and social activities, Commonwealth provides a rich and varied middle school and high school experience, readying our students for the challenges of college or other post-secondary education.

At the heart of our community is an involved, mutually supportive group of parents. Some first walked through our doors because their child was overly anxious about school as the demands became more complex; grades were dropping and didn’t reflect his or her ability. Some have come from public and private elementary schools as a natural progression after remediation. Others have arrived searching for answers as they saw their child losing confidence, a sense of belonging, or direction.

As a long-time educator and psychologist, and as a mother who guided her own children's instructors in crafting ways to provide the support they needed to excel, I can’t think of another organization to which I'd rather devote my energy, experience and leadership. I encourage you to visit our school to learn more about our program.
