Head of School Susan J. Johnson, PhD, was selected as a 2009–2010 Washington Post Distinguished Educator. As one of 19 "Principals of Excellence" tapped from the metro area to receive this award, Dr. Johnson was the only one from an independent school to receive this honor. Dr. Johnson was chosen for her exemplary leadership and role of mentor for staff and students, her innovation and creativity in school programs and curriculum, her dedication to fostering cooperation between the school and the community, and her commitment to professional development for herself and staff members. Dr. Johnson was nominated by Donald Klawiter, past parent and Chair Emeritus of the C/A Board of Trustees. Teachers, parents, and colleagues also contributed letters of support on her behalf.
