11th & 12th GRADE HISTORY FIELD TRIP

On March 4-5, the 11th grade United States/Virginia History classes and the 12th grade Government class will be taking an overnight field trip to Richmond , Williamsburg and Jamestown Virginia.

On Tuesday, March 4, students will travel by bus to Richmond for a tour of the State Capitol Building and to sit in on a legislative session.  We will then travel to Williamsburg for the “Legends, Ghosts, Mysteries, and Myths Tour” and to spend the night.

On Wednesday we will take a tour of the Jamestown Settlement and then return to Commonwealth Academy .

We will be staying at the Williamsburg Super 8 Colonial on 1233 Richmond Road , Williamsburg Virginia; a continental breakfast will be provided.

Money for Meals: To make paying for meals easier for both us and the restaurants, we will collect $40 from each student on MONDAY, MARCH 2nd.  Please send either $40 cash or a $40 check made out to Commonwealth Academy , before we leave on Tuesday morning.  All monies must be turned into Mrs. Grant or Mrs. Burstein. During the trip, the chaperones will pay for three scheduled meals, as one bill, with the school’s credit card.

The $40 will cover:

  • One boxed lunch at the Capitol Building ;
  • One entrée and one drink at Sal’s by Victor (a restaurant near our motel) ;
  • and one lunch at the café at the Jamestown settlement.

It is suggested that student’s bring additional money or a snack or a small lunch for the bus ride to Richmond.  We plan to stop for a snack on the way, but our options may be limited.

Behavior- This trip is a school sponsored event.  All rules that apply on campus apply away from campus.  Students will be expected to act in a respectful manor to chaperones, each other and themselves.  Penalties for breaking rules on the trip are the same as breaking rules at school.  Demerits will be given as necessary and consequences such as detention or suspension will be imposed upon our return to school.  Extreme violations will result in parents being called and being asked to come to Williamsburg to pick up their child.

Dress Code- Students will be expected to adhere to the school dress code while on this trip.  On Tuesday while at the Capitol building, the Supreme Court and the Governor’s mansion students will be expected to wear comfortable professional attire such as a collared shirt and pants or clean, neat jeans.  Students WILL NOT be permitted to wear hats at the capitol or listen to Ipods, MP3 players or walkmen, or any other device that includes headphones.

Room Assignments- Rooms have been assigned to each student by the Chaperones.  There is to be no room changing before or during the trip.  If you have a concern about your child’s roommates please contact Mr. Synan, Mr. Henneberg, Mr. Conroy, or Ms. Burgess.

This Field Trip is a mandatory part of the 11th and 12th grade curriculum.  All students are expected to attend. Those who cannot participate will be required to complete an assignment in place of the trip.
