EVENTS

Numerous school wide events bring together the student and parent communities to celebrate successes and individual and group talents.

Middle school students present theatre performances twice a year as part of the performing arts elective, and hold quarterly music recitals. High school students stage two evenings of theatre, one in the Winter and one in the Spring, often one-act performances from popular plays or movies such as “The Breakfast Club.” Students work together to build props, make costumes, and choreograph the performances.

Digital, fine arts, and poetry are showcased at the Annual Art & Poetry show. Art is hung on the walls of Commonwealth and students’ poetry is compiled in our annual publications, “1321” and "1321 in the Middle."

Each Spring, we hold a middle school Science and Academic Fair. Faculty judges projects for information presented, creativity, scientific merit, and display.

Other community activities are planned on an ad hoc basis to help build teamwork and reinforce academic skills and concepts. For example, middle and high school students joined together to construct, paint and launch two rowboats in a boat building activity assisted by the Alexandria Seaport Society.

The Commonwealth Academy Parents Association (CAPA) also plans several community events throughout the year and supports our Annual Awards Dinner.
