| STUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES |
As Commonwealth students learn to “own” and take responsibility for their learning differences, they also take responsibility for their behavior to ensure that all students enjoy the same rights.
- Students have the right to participate in a full educational program.
To keep this right, students have the responsibility of regular school attendance, conscientious effort in classroom work, allowing others to work without interference, and complying with all the rules of Commonwealth Academy.
- Students have the right to expect a safe environment in which to learn.
Students have a responsibility to notify school staff members of behavior that may endanger their personal safety and/or well being of others.
- Students have the right to expect courtesy, fairness, and respect.
Students have the responsibility to respect the authority of teachers, staff and others providing educational services.
- Students have the right to expect other students and school personnel to respect their personal property.
Students have the responsibility to use personal property in accordance with school rules and to respect the personal property of their fellow students, staff members, and the school building and equipment.
- Students have the right to express the need for a change of policy, in written or oral form, and to voice concerns to staff members regarding decisions made by staff.
- Students have the responsibility to see that these expressions of opinion do not interfere with schooling and are presented in a timely, appropriate, and constructive manner.
