Commonwealth Academy

Congratulations are in order for Commonwealth Academy's own Writing Teacher Carolyn Fado, who has been selected from an impressive pool of applicants across the United States to receive a full scholarship and stipend and participate in the 2023 Kenyon Review Writers Retreat for Educators.

The 2023 Writers Retreat for Educators is a summer writing experience offered by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers for educators participating in the 2023 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. According to an announcement from Scholastic, “Educators with a student who receives regional recognition in the 2023 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are eligible to apply for this experience, hosted by the Kenyon Review.”

In February, CA student Alex G-A. '26 received recognition in the 2023 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, presented by Writopia Lab. Alex was named a Scholastic Gold Key Award recipient for their poetry collection, "A Depressive Parasite." Alex’s incredible accomplishment made it possible for Fado to qualify and apply for this year’s Writer’s Retreat.

In the acceptance notification for this year’s Writer’s Retreat, a member of the National Writing Project’s team indicated that staff and members, alike, were “very impressed” with Fado’s work and “excited” to offer a full-tuition scholarship for this summer’s program.

“It’s an honor to be recognized in this way. I feel fortunate to receive this opportunity to further hone my own creative writing and ultimately better serve CA students,” Fado said.

Please join our entire community in congratulating Carolyn Fado on this wonderful accomplishment.
