Community Service
embracing our larger community
At Commonwealth Academy, we believe in serving and giving back to the greater community. In fact, each Upper School student is expected to participate in at least 10 hours of community service for each year they attend CA.
CA’s Community Service program affords students opportunities to experience service in a variety of ways. Through our four school-wide projects each year, students get a glimpse of the many ways they can support our community. In the past, activities have included:
-
Preparing food for individuals experiencing food insecurity
-
Making care packages for first responders
-
Making blankets for youth in foster care
Through our service programs, students also have the opportunity to research and develop individualized community service projects that align with their passions. These opportunities have included making birdhouses for a local park, cleaning up our neighborhood, and hosting a school-wide talent show and canned food drive. Another service activity that our students find delightful is the Bigs and Littles program, which allows students in the Upper School to act as mentors and buddies for Lower School students.
